Configuring Your Consent Banner
Make your banner match your brand and comply with the right rules — in minutes.
Overview
After installation, Consentr.io shows a default banner on your website. This guide explains how to fully configure it. All settings are managed via the Consentr.io dashboard at consentr.io — no code changes needed.
Step 1 — Open your domain settings
Log in at consentr.io and go to Domains in the left sidebar.
Click on the domain you want to configure.
You'll land on the domain detail page with five tabs at the top: Widget · Cookies · Integratie · Compliance · Beleid
Stay on the Widget tab — this is where all banner configuration happens.
Step 2 — Choose a template
Under Template kiezen, select the banner layout that fits your website:
TemplateDescriptionClassic BarFull-width bar at the bottom of the pageCrossCentered modal overlayMinimal ToastSmall, unobtrusive corner notificationFloating CardFloating card, slightly off-centerPrivacy GateFull-screen overlay — maximum compliance visibilitySide PanelSlides in from the side
✅ GDPR tip: Under GDPR/AVG, the banner must be clearly visible and the accept/reject choice equally prominent. Any template works as long as both buttons are equally visible.
Step 3 — Uiterlijk (Appearance)
Set the visual style to match your website:
Positie — Where the banner appears on screen (depends on chosen template)
Thema — Light or dark banner style
Accentkleur — The primary colour used for buttons and highlights. Enter your brand's hex code directly.
Logo tonen — Toggle on to display your company logo inside the banner
Step 4 — Teksten (Texts)
Customize the copy visitors will see:
Titel — The banner headline, e.g. "Wij respecteren uw privacy"
Beschrijving — Short explanation of why you use cookies. Keep it plain-language — avoid legal jargon.
Privacy beleid URL — Paste the full URL to your privacy policy page (e.g.
https://www.yourcompany.be/privacybeleid)
Step 6 — Gedrag (Behaviour)
Control how the banner behaves:
Consent modus — Set to Opt-in (GDPR) for European visitors. Switch to Opt-out only if required for specific jurisdictions.
Consent verloopt na (dagen) — How many days before consent expires and the banner is shown again. Default: 365 days.
Dubbelklik tracking op links tot consent — Blocks tracking on link clicks until the visitor has given consent.
Responsive button hook houden — Keeps the consent preferences button visible after the banner is dismissed, so visitors can change their preferences at any time.
Google Consent Mode v2 intrekken — Enables automatic integration with Google Analytics and Google Ads. Recommended to keep this on.
IAB TCF 2.2 — Enable if your website uses IAB-registered advertising vendors. Not required for most SME websites.
Geo targeting actief — Shows different banner behaviour based on visitor location. Useful if your website serves both EU and US visitors.
Step 7 — Cookie categorieën (Cookie categories)
Review and configure the cookie categories shown to visitors:
✅ Never pre-enable Analytisch or Marketing. This is a dark pattern under GDPR and can result in fines.
Step 8 — A/B Testing (optional)
Enable A/B test activeren to test two different banner configurations simultaneously. Consentr.io will split your visitors and show each group a different version — useful for optimising consent rates.
Step 9 — Save and publish
Scroll to the bottom of the page to see your Live voorbeeld (live preview) — this shows exactly how your banner will look.
Click Configuratie Opslaan to save and publish.
Changes go live immediately — no reinstallation of the script needed.
Open your website in a private/incognito window to verify the updated banner.
