Getting Started with Consentr.io

Your consent banner, live in minutes.

What you'll need

Step 1 — Create your account

  1. Go to app.consentr.io and sign up with your business email.

  2. Enter your website domain (e.g. yourcompany.be).

  3. Choose your jurisdiction: GDPR/AVG (Europe), CCPA (California), or both.

  4. Your account is ready. You'll land in the Consentr.io dashboard.

Step 2 — Configure your consent banner

Before installing the script, set up your banner first.

  1. In the dashboard, go to Banner Settings.

  2. Choose your language(s) — Dutch, French, English, or multilingual.

  3. Set your banner position: bottom bar, center modal, or corner widget.

  4. Review the cookie categories that Consentr.io detected for your domain:

    • Necessary (always active)

    • Analytics

    • Marketing

    • Preferences

  5. Click Save & Generate Script — your unique embed script is now ready.

Step 3 — Install the script

Choose the method that fits your setup:

Option A — Direct HTML (script tag)

The fastest method. Works with any website.

  1. In your dashboard, go to Installation → Script Tag.

  2. Copy your unique script snippet — it looks like this:

  1. Paste this snippet inside the <head> tag of every page on your website.

  2. Save and publish your changes.

✅ Important: Place the script as high as possible in <head> to ensure the banner loads before any tracking tools fire.

Option B — WordPress plugin

Recommended for WordPress websites.

  1. In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins → Add New.

  2. Search for "Consentr" and install the official Consentr.io plugin.

  3. Activate the plugin.

  4. Go to Settings → Consentr.io and paste your Site ID from the dashboard.

  5. Click Save. The banner is now active on your entire WordPress site.

✅ The plugin automatically places the script in the correct location — no theme editing needed.

Option C — Google Tag Manager

Recommended if you manage multiple scripts via GTM.

  1. Open your Google Tag Manager container.

  2. Go to Tags → New → Custom HTML tag.

  3. Paste your Consentr.io script snippet into the HTML field.

  4. Set the trigger to All Pages – Consent Initialization (or "All Pages" if that trigger isn't available).

  5. Name the tag (e.g. Consentr.io Banner) and click Save.

  6. Click Submit to publish your container.

⚠️ Important for GTM users: Make sure the Consentr.io tag fires before any analytics or advertising tags. Set it as the first tag in the firing order, or use the Consent Initialization trigger.

Option D — Other CMS or custom integration

For platforms like Webflow, Shopify, Squarespace, Wix, or custom-built sites:

  1. Find the global header/head section of your CMS or theme settings.

  2. Paste your Consentr.io script snippet there.

  3. Publish or save your changes.

Refer to your CMS documentation for how to add custom scripts to the <head>. If you need help, contact us at support@consentr.io.

Step 4 — Verify the installation

  1. Open your website in a private/incognito browser window.

  2. Your consent banner should appear within a few seconds.

  3. Back in the Consentr.io dashboard, go to Overview — you should see your first consent event registered.

Step 5 — You're compliant

Consentr.io is now:

  • Blocking tracking cookies until consent is given ✓

  • Recording every consent decision in your audit trail ✓

  • Respecting visitor preferences across return visits ✓

  • Aligned with GDPR/AVG, ePrivacy, and CCPA requirements ✓

You can review all consent activity under Reports → Consent Log in your dashboard.
